Gauteng passes 1 000 mark in recoveries

On Monday, the Gauteng Department of Health confirmed the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province on Sunday was 1 624, with 1 015 recoveries and 14 deaths.

According to the department, out of a total of 8 666 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for Covid-19); 5 990 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and then were taken out of isolation.

The department said 69 people were hospitalised for Covid-19 in public and private health facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries as follows:

–              Johannesburg: 935 cases and 611 recoveries

–              Ekurhuleni: 358 cases and 263 recoveries

–              Tshwane: 201 cases and  104 recoveries

–              Sedibeng: 21 cases and 6 recoveries

–              West Rand: 45 cases and  31 recoveries

The department indicated that there were 64 unallocated cases in the province.

City of Johannesburg D: Doornkop, Soweto, Dobsonville, Protea Glen (63)

City of Johannesburg E: Alexandra, Wynberg, Sandton, Orange Grove, Houghton (262)

City of Johannesburg F: Inner City, Johannesburg South (108)

The department indicated there were 92 unallocated cases within the district.

Merafong City: three cases

And one unallocated case.

“Allocating Gauteng cases to respective districts is ongoing. After obtaining further information on contact numbers and addresses from law enforcement agencies, provincial outbreak teams and the National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD), we are able to make corrections where a case might have been incorrectly allocated to a particular district,” the department added.
