Gauteng woman wakes up during rape ordeal after withdrawing cash

The last thing the victim can remember is leaving the bank in Carletonville after withdrawing money.

The police are looking for a man to be questioned regarding a rape that took place in Carletonville in July after a woman who went to withdraw cash at a bank, woke up at a strange location while she was being raped.

Captain Solomon Sibiya from the West Rand police says the Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is asking for the assistance of the public to help find a person of interest.

He says that a 31-year-old woman went to town in Carletonville on July 6 at 10:45 to withdraw cash at Nedbank. She told the police she could only remember walking down the stairs, leaving the bank premises.

She cannot remember what happened after that. She later woke up in Khutsong, Extension 5 inside a room that she did not recognise, while someone was raping her.

“The suspect allegedly raped the victim repeatedly,” says Sibiya.

Police believe the man in the picture can assist them to catch the perpetrator.

Anyone who comes across or identifies this man should not approach him but immediately call the investigation officer Detective Constable Chilaule on 061 710 4457.

Alternatively, they can call the Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or provide a tip-off via the My SAPS app.
