George knife attack: Husband granted bail

The accused allegedly stabbed his wife in the head with a knife during an incident of domestic violence earlier in November.

Despite the state opposing bail, a 39-year-old man from Thembalethu who is believed to work for the George Magistrate’s Court, was released on bail in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court on the condition that he does not contact his wife (36), who he allegedly stabbed in the head with a knife.

The man was arrested in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay, on November 20, on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the alleged incident of domestic violence earlier in the month.

It is alleged that the suspect went to work the Monday before his arrest, but when he found out that the police were looking for him, he fled.

He was later apprehended by the Thembalethu police in Kwanokuthula and was in custody until Tuesday, when he was released on R1 000 bail with strict conditions.

The bail conditions include that the suspect may not contact the complainant, he must reside at an alternative address (his sister’s) in Thembalethu, and that his sister will handle all communication between him and the complainant.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on January 14.
