Going up… Petrol, diesel, paraffin and gas to cost more from tomorrow

Make sure you fill up your vehicle today – before fuel prices significantly increase.

South Africans are going to have to tighten their purse strings even further, with the prices of petrol, diesel, paraffin and gas increasing at midnight.

Motorists filling up at inland pumps will pay just more than R25 a litre of petrol. This means it will cost more than R1 125 to fill up a 45-litre tank and more than R1 500 for a 60-litre tank. Ten years ago, in 2013, petrol averaged around R13 a litre, which means filling up a small car then would have cost around R585.

According to a statement issued by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, petrol will increase by between R1.08 and R1.14 per litre; while diesel will increase by between R1.93 and R1.96 per litre.

Wholesale illuminating paraffin will increase by R1.51 a litre, while the maximum retail price of illuminating paraffin will increase by R2.02.

LP gas will increase by R2.50 per kilogram.

Minister Mantashe said some of the reasons for price hikes are the increased cost of crude oil, increasing international petroleum product prices, higher freight costs, and the rand-dollar depreciation.
