Gunmen open fire on Mpumalanga ward councillor’s house, car

Police reports indicate that a gang of five men fired more than 20 shots at the eMbalenhle councillor's house and vehicle.

The ANC councillor for Ward 4 in eMbalenhle outside Secunda, Simphiwe Sindelo (39), was lucky to sustain no injuries when gunmen opened fire on Tuesday evening.

According to police, Sindelo arrived home from a school meeting, parked his vehicle and went into his house.

Then, police say, at least 10 gunshots were fired at the driver’s seat of his car.

The group of gunmen proceeded to open fire on the house and reportedly fired shots at the kitchen door.

According to the police, more than 20 shots were fired by the gang that comprises more than five suspects.

The gang fled the scene and no arrests have been made yet, a statement by the police reads.

The councillor and his family were not injured and a case of attempted murder has been opened.
