Gunmen rob Umhlanga cellphone store

Two cellphone stores on KZN’s North Coast have been robbed this week.

Staff members at a cellphone shop were left traumatised yesterday afternoon when armed men targeted their store at La Lucia Mall in Umhlanga, KZN.

It was reported that robbers held up staff members and made off with several items from the store.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell says they responded to the scene.

“Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries. However, the staff members are understandably shaken by the traumatic experience. SAPS was also present at the scene,” he says.

La Lucia Mall confirmed the robbery.

“La Lucia Mall can confirm that no shots were fired, nor were there any injuries relating to a robbery at one of the mall’s cellular outlets this afternoon.

“We would like to reassure our valued customers that La Lucia Mall remains committed to providing a safe shopping experience. We appreciate the support of our community and will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our shoppers remains our top priority,” a statement from the mall read.

This was the second business robbery in which robbers targeted a cellphone store in the area.

On Wednesday, a store was targeted at Kensington Square. One person was shot and injured during the robbery.
