Hawks arrest suspected cop killer in Mpumalanga
The man was found at Ermelo Hospital where he was admitted with gun shot wounds.
The Secunda-based Hawks yesterday arrested a fourth suspect in the murder of a police sergeant at his home in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, in February.
The police sergeant was stationed at the Mahamba border post. He was off duty when he was shot.
He managed to call his friend, who then rushed him to the local hospital, from where he was transferred to Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt. However, he later died due to his injuries.
Three suspects, including the late sergeant’s wife, have since been arrested by the Hawks.
“The late sergeant’s wife was allegedly in contact with a man who was arrested today,” says spokesperson Warrant Officer Virginia Thandi Tshabalala.
“He is from Ermelo, and his motor vehicle was allegedly used when the police sergeant was shot.”
The man was found at Ermelo Hospital, where he was admitted with gunshot wounds.
“He is still in hospital under police guard, his cellphone was seized, and he is expected to appear in court once he has recovered,” says Tshabalala.
