Head-on collision in Pinetown leaves 1 dead, multiple injured
Emergency services flooded an accident scene on the M12 late last night after a fully loaded taxi and a light motor vehicle collided.
A man died and about 14 people travelling in a taxi were injured in a crash in the Pinetown area last night (June 28), according to emergency services, reports Highway Mail.
According to Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics, emergency services attended the scene just after 21:20 on the M19 between Bevis Road and Otto Volek Road.
“Paramedics found that a fully loaded taxi had collided head on with a light motor vehicle. Immediately more ambulances, Advanced Life Support Paramedics and the eThekwini Fire Department were dispatched to assist with the multiple casualty scene.

“Paramedics triaged the scene and found that the light motor vehicle driver, a male believed to be in his forties, had sustained fatal injuries. There was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.
According to Jamieson approximately 14 people from the taxi sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious. “Once stabilised on the scene they were transported to various Durban hospitals for further care. At this stage, it is believed one of the vehicles crossed the centre median resulting in this crash. SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further,” he said.
