Hijacker nabbed with toy gun following a failed hijacking in Sasolburg

Police detectives are investigating an attempted hijacking case that took place on September 20 around 12:30 on 14 Roseberry Street in Sasolburg.

The victim reported the incident at Alexandra Police Station.

Alexandra Police Station‘s spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said the victim said he was stopped at traffic lights when he was approached by a man.

“The suspect had a firearm and was trying to break the driver’s window and when he failed to do that, he opened the driver’s door and pointed a firearm at him. The complainant refused to get out of the car. The suspect then took a phone from the charging compartment and fled with it,” he said.

“The firearm fell out of the suspect’s pants while he was running away.” It was later discovered that it was a toy gun.

The value of the items stolen was calculated to be R2 850. This was an Itel cellphone valued at

R850 and a GPS at R2 000.

The suspect had been arrested.
