Hike fundraiser aimed at raising funds for Pretoria toddler

A young Pretorian is putting up a brave fight against a rare form of brain cancer.

Katelyn Brand (4) from Centurion is suffering from central nervous system embryonal neuroblastoma, Centurion Rekord reports.

While she is receiving treatment at the Unitas hospital’s paediatric oncology unit, the most effective form of treatment for this cancer is proton therapy (only available in the US), which is a very advanced form of radiation.

Katelyn’s parents and loved ones are eager to get her the funds to receive the lifesaving treatment as soon as possible.

On the Kure for Katelyn Facebook page, her family and friends have started multiple fundraisers in an attempt to get to their target as soon as possible.

One such fundraiser is the Drakensberg Grand Traverse for Katelyn on 16-23 June. The aim is to raise R40 000 towards her fund.

“Numerous hikers volunteered to participate in the hike and these hiker heroes are training hard to beat the berg and tackle 40km for Katelyn and they need you to help them raise the R40 000. Donations start at R50 and each hiker has their own profile, so you can pick your favourite hero and help them earn the Ultimate Fundraising Champion title,” the post reads.
