Human head found stuck near gearbox of Gauteng truck
Two drivers claim they inspected the truck upon ending and resuming their respective journeys, and neither saw anything suspicious.
Brackendowns SAPS have their work cut out for them in trying to establish the facts in an unusual investigation after a human head was found stuck in a truck at a company in Alrode, Alberton on Thursday.
According to Ekurhuleni district police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela they responded to a complaint at Imperial Cargo in Baron Street. On arrival, a man explained to police that there was a human head stuck between the gearbox and the filter of a Volvo truck.
Sekgobela says the truck driver explained that he received the truck from another driver on Thursday at 06:00.
According to him, the previous driver told him about an incident that occurred on the R21 before the handover.
“He was driving near the Olifantsfontein off-ramp when he noticed a car with its hazard lights on, parked next to the road. As he got closer to the vehicle, he noticed there was a body lying in the road next to the vehicle,” says Sekgobela.
The driver claims that it was too late to stop but he did manage to reduce his speed to such an extent that he could slowly drive over the body, lying in the middle of the road, without the wheels touching it.
Sekgobela says the driver claims he stopped and inspected his truck but did not see anything suspicious, so he continued with his journey.
The new driver says that after he received the truck on Thursday and heard the previous driver’s story, he too inspected the truck but found everything to be in order.
He then travelled to Alrode to offload cargo where, upon inspecting the truck again, he noticed the human head stuck next to the truck’s gearbox.
Brackendowns police are currently investigating an inquest docket.
