Hundreds nabbed in Pretoria East crime clean-up

“Some 98 suspects were arrested for allegedly committing gender-based violence.”

In an effort to rid the east of Pretoria of criminal elements, drugs, illegal firearms and lawlessness, the South African Police Service (SAPS), working with other law enforcement agencies, stamped their authority on crime in various communities.

The SAPS crime-busting operation known as ‘O KAE MOLAO’ was led by Tshwane district acting police commissioner, Brigadier Samuel Thine.

Eersterust police spokesperson Seargant Sam Shibambo said the operation was executed in the Eersterust and Silverton policing areas.

“In Eersterust three suspects were arrested for possession of drugs and six others were nabbed for being in the country illegally,” he said.

About 318 motorists were also issued with AARTO fines amounting to R156 300.00 for road traffic offences at a roadblock strategically executed in the Silverton area, said Shibambo.

Three liquor outlets were closed down and the owners issued with hefty fines for selling liquor without licences or permits.

“Some 98 suspects were arrested for allegedly committing gender-based violence,” he added.

The operation led to the searching of 505 motor vehicles,1228 people and 33 premises.
A total of 20 undocumented people were arrested for being in the country illegally.

“A grey Toyota Corolla that was reportedly stolen in Sinoville was also recovered at the roadblock in Silverton and the driver was placed under arrest for being in possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.”

All the suspects arrested for serious offences will appear in the Hatfield or Tshwane Magistrate’s courts soon.

Brigadier Thine thanked all role players for stamping the state’s authority on combatting crime in Tshwane.

He appealed to the community to work closely with the police to eradicate crime in the city.
