I just wanted to scare them – North West double-murder accused

A man accused of murdering his wife and stepdaughter is due to again appear in court on Monday, when judgment will be made.

Paul Prinsloo (62), who shot and killed his wife and stepdaughter in Kosmos in Hartbeespoort in 2023, pleaded guilty in the Pretoria High Court to murder but not premeditated murder.

According to an article published by Kormorant, Prinsloo made his first appearance in the Pretoria High Court on Monday.

He told the court that he had not planned to murder his wife Magdaleen Prinsloo (58) and his stepdaughter Ruzanne Weideman (31). He just ‘wanted to show them who the boss was’.

Magdaleen and Ruzanne were murdered in the Prinsloo home in Kosmos on November 27, 2023, following an argument between Prinsloo and the two women.

A family friend, Nico Pienaar, who witnessed the murders, testified that an argument ensued between Prinsloo and his wife.

“She told him she wanted him out of the house by December 27 because Elfie (a former boyfriend) would be moving in. Paul then told me he was going to kill three people, namely Magdalene, Ruzanne and Elfie. He then got up and said he was fetching more beer.”

Prinsloo returned with a hunting rifle and shot and killed both women.

After Prinsloo told the court he did not plan the murders, Judge Mashudu Munzhelele asked him why he fetched the rifle if he did not plan it. He answered that he did not know and only wanted to scare them.

Munzhelele postponed the case until Monday, when she will give her judgment on whether she accepts his plea of murder or if he is guilty of premeditated murder.
