‘Isibaya’ actress to appear in Scottburgh court for speeding
An actress and model was arrested in KZN after she allegedly clocked a speed of 198km/h.
Actress and model Asavela Mqokiyana is expected to appear for the second time in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court today (October 28) on speeding charges.
According to a statement from the KZN Department of Transport, she was arrested on the N2 near Ellingham earlier this month for allegedly clocking 198km/h in a 120km/h zone, reports The Witness.
The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) arrested the Isibaya actress, and she first appeared in court on October 19.
KZN MEC Siboniso Duma said Mqokiyana’s arrest should serve as a warning to all that no one is above the law and that law enforcement is active on the roads.
Duma has previously warned motorists that law enforcement will increase operations and visibility ahead of the festive season to remove offenders before roads become congested with holidaymakers.
He said that from October 15 to October 21, the RTI and Operation Shanela have stopped 12 073 vehicles, charged 1 719 motorists, impounded 140 vehicles and charged 421 drivers for speeding.
Duma said dozens more operations will be taking place to ensure a safer festive season.
