Joburg police remove 115 shacks near Lenasia
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) removed 115 partly built illegal structures near the N12 on 18 July.
The spokesperson for the JMPD, Wayne Minnaar stated that a number of complaints were received about unauthorized structures being erected and built along K43 where the road links up with the N12 just near Lenasia.
“The people who had erected their unauthorised structures even went on to protest, attempting to close the N12 Highway until the JMPD officers had to use rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.”
The people near Protea Glen found themselves protesting for their illegal structures, yet better known as shacks to stand firm, close to the highway.
All the materials which were used to erect the shacks like corrugated iron, wooden poles, wooden boards, and pipes were confiscated, Minnaar said, “We will closely observe the area to make sure that the shacks/ illegal structures are never erected again.”
