Joburg school suspends learners for playing ‘rape-game’
The boys allegedly tried to force a fellow learner to participate in the game but he refused.
Two boys, in Grade 8 and 9, were suspended from Hoërskool Die Fakkel after an incident on Tuesday (October 17) involving a game they allegedly played and fears that a fellow learner might have been raped in the process.
A concerned parent alerted the Southern Courier, saying two boys had apparently raped another boy on the school premises.
The Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed it was aware of a rape allegation that allegedly took place at the school.
“A report at our disposal reveals that Grade 8 and 9 boy learners were playing a game called ‘rape’ inside the school toilets.
“A fellow learner was allegedly forced to participate in the game but refused, and he reported the matter to the principal.
“His mother was immediately notified and took him to the doctor for a medical examination. The doctor’s report revealed that the boy was not raped.
“The school has since suspended all the perpetrators and scheduled a disciplinary hearing for October 25.
“Furthermore, the school held an assembly programme where they cautioned learners against performing sexual acts on other learners and the consequences associated with such behaviour,” explained Mabona.
