Kidnapping suspect linked to burnt bodies appears in Nelspruit court
A man allegedly pointed out the location where three unidentified bodies were found in Mpumalanga after police took him in for questioning on suspicion of kidnapping.
A 29-year-old man appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court yesterday (April 29) in connection with the alleged kidnapping of three Sudwala residents, reports Lowvelder.
This follows the discovery of three burnt bodies along the R535 between Hazyview and Graskop on April 22.
At the time Mpumalanga police spokesperson Mavela Masondo briefed the media on the scene, saying that the bodies were discovered at 02:00 and that police were investigating a case of murder.
The suspect, who was initially taken in for questioning, was later arrested and has been identified as Van Rooi Mthobi Tsatsie.
Although Tsatsie was not charged with murder, he faces charges of kidnapping and the case was postponed to May 4 to allow him time to obtain legal representation.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Jabu Ndubane, Tsatsie pointed out the location where the three bodies were found.
The bodies have not yet been identified, and police are awaiting DNA results.
