Kruger Park reckless driving video: Driver issues public apology after viral stunts

SANParks says that a public apology won't save a reckless driver from ‘serious consequences’ after filming himself breaking park rules.

Online remorse hasn’t cooled the tempers of SANParks officials. After footage surfaced of a young man speeding through rivers and tearing down restricted-access roads in the Kruger National Park, the driver has taken to Instagram to apologize.

The Lowvelder reports that in his apology video, the man – whose identity has not been formally confirmed by officials – says he has high regard for South African National Parks (SANParks) and the work they do.

“I fully understand why what I did created reaction, and I take all of your concerns very seriously. From here on out, everything I do in the national parks will reflect the respect they deserve.”

In response, SANParks’ general manager for communications Rey Thakhuli said that it is too late, and the individual will face serious consequences.

“We have seen the apology, which is little too late. His actions will be met with serious consequences to deter similar behaviour. This will also teach a lesson to be more responsible.”

The man faces the possibility of fines and could be banned from entering all SANParks-managed areas, depending on the investigation outcomes.
