A young man who posted a video of himself driving recklessly on restricted-access roads and speeding through rivers in the Kruger National Park (KNP) has publicly apologised online.
In his apology video, the man says he has high regard for SANParks and the work they do, and that he has loved the park his whole life.
“I fully understand why what I did created reaction, and I take all of your concerns very seriously. From here on out, everything I do in the national parks will reflect the respect they deserve.”
In response, SANParks’ general manager for communications Rey Thakhuli said that it is too late and the individual will face serious consequences.
“We have seen the apology, which is little too late. His actions will be met with serious consequence to deter similar behaviour. This will also teach a lesson to be more responsible.”
A video circulating on social media, allegedly depicting a man driving recklessly through rivers and closed roads inside the Kruger National Park, has sparked outrage, with SANParks warning that the individual will face serious consequences once identified. According to SANParks’ general manager for communications Rey Thakhuli, the footage shows the individual engaging in dangerous and unlawful behaviour within the protected conservation area. Thakhuli said the man was seen unlawfully crossing rivers, ignoring officially closed roads and operating a vehicle recklessly inside the national park. “Such behaviour demonstrates a blatant disregard for conservation regulations, public safety, environmental protection measures and the authority of park management. The organisation wishes to make it plainly clear that conduct of this nature will not be tolerated and will be dealt with the seriousness it deserves,” he said. #knp#krugernationalpark#fastandfurious#southafrica
