Krugersdorp man hit by train

A man was hit by a train in front of commuters in an apparent suicide at the Witpoortjie train station in Krugersdorp, on the West Rand, on Wednesday morning.

According to an eyewitness, commuters allegedly saw the man walking up and down the platforms before he stepped on to the tracks, Krugersdorp News reported.

ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene, where they found severed body parts scattered across the railway tracks after the man was hit by the train shortly before 7am.

The man’s body was reportedly ripped apart, while his intestines and brain were splattered across the walls and platform.

Bystanders said they initially thought the man was on the wrong side of the station and wanted to take a shortcut to the other side. However, he then stood still on one of the tracks as the train approached.

“When he lifted his head, the train was right in front of him, then it was all over,” an eyewitness said.

Police were later called to the scene.

Last month, a man died and another critically injured when they were hit by a train at the Klaarwater train station, near Mariannhill, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to paramedics, both men were about 30-years-old.
