Krugersdorp sex worker shot in the buttocks

Krugersdorp police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a young woman believed to be a sex worker was shot and left for dead.

The woman was shot in the buttocks on the corner of Barrat Street and Main Reef Road on Friday night, Krugersdorp News reported.

CPF Sector 4 members on the scene at the time said trails of blood on the street could be seen after the woman had dragged her body on to the pavement.

No arrests have been made.

Last week, the plight of the country’s sex workers was highlighted at the launch of a national HIV/Aids programme, which focused on their needs.

At an event attended by more than 130 sex workers in Johannesburg, sex-worker movement Sisonke’s national coordinator Kholi Buthelezi pointed out the dire situations faced by sex workers.

This included police officers who raped sex workers as “a favour” not to jail them.
