KwaMathukuza mother arrested after murder of 2 young daughters

Police have launched a full investigation after knives were recovered under a bed in the killing of a nine-month-old and five-year-old girl.

Newcastle SAPS responded on Thursday to an incident in KwaMathukuza where two children were murdered, allegedly by their mother.

Newcastle Advertiser reports that, according to the suspect’s father, he received a call from the father of the children, who informed him that he had been contacted by the suspect, who allegedly said she had killed their children (a nine-month-old and a five-year-old girl). The suspect’s father then went to his daughter’s home.

On arrival, she was not present. He reportedly found his two grandchildren in a bedroom covered in blood with their throats slit.

The children were declared dead on the scene.

The suspect was later apprehended and arrested in Madadeni after fleeing the crime scene.

She was found with an injury to her throat and allegedly admitted to having inflicted it herself.

Two blood-stained knives were found under a bed.

The motive remains unknown and the investigation is continuing.
