KZN cops get warrant of arrest for 2022 murder suspect
Almost a year after a 26-year-old woman was killed, allegedly by her boyfriend, Empangeni police have made progress in the case.
Detectives from Empangeni, north of Durban, have secured a warrant of arrest against Bongumusa Mabonga Mkhwanazi who is accused of murdering his girlfriend.
Reports indicate Mkhwanazi, originally from KwaMthethwa Reserve, was renting a room in a cottage on Matshana Reserve outside Empangeni where he lived with his girlfriend Nompilo Mbuyazi (26).
King Cetshwayo police cluster spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase says: “It is alleged that on October 1 last year at about 03:00, Mkhwanazi had an argument with Mbuyazi after he found her drunk at a tavern in Matshana.
“They were spotted by her family arguing as they walked passed her home. This was the last time she was seen alive.
“On October 3, her body was found along R34 road. Since the discovery, Mkhwanazi has not been seen.”
Shangase says police have visited his home on several occasions without luck.
They are now requesting assistance from the public.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mkhwanazi is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Sikhumbuzo Mabaso, on 078 507 2182 / 082 227 2058 / 035 907 1940.
