KZN induna (72) shot dead in suspected targeted attack
A tribal leader and taxi association member was shot dead in a suspected hit near Dannhauser, prompting a murder investigation.
Police have confirmed the fatal shooting of a well-known community leader and member of the Masihambisane Taxi Association in what appears to be a targeted hit near the Anandale area outside Dannhauser in KZN yesterday afternoon.
According to Northern Natal News, the victim, identified as 72-year-old Siphiwe Ezra Nyembe, served as the induna of the Emalangeni Tribal Authority. Police reports indicate Nyembe was driving along the Jan gravel road when he came under attack from occupants of a black sedan that had been trailing him.
Multiple gunshots were fired, causing his vehicle to veer off the road. He sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and chin and was transported to Nellie’s Clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Crime scene investigators recovered nine cartridge casings at the scene.
Police have opened a murder case and are urging members of the public who may have information to come forward.
