KZN man collapsed and died while walking
An inquest docket has been opened after a man, 50, allegedly collapsed and died while walking along Commerial Road in Umtentweni, KwaZulu-Natal early yesterday.
Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said a postmortem would be conducted to determine the cause of death, as the deceased had no visible injuries. Port Shepstone police are investigating circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a separate incident, a Grade 8 learner passed away inside a pharmacy in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga after collapsing during a soccer match last Monday.
The pupil, from Lowveld High School, reportedly collapsed on the pitch at another school and was rushed to Mopani Pharmacy, as it was the closest medical facility. Provincial spokesperson for department of education Jasper Zwane and the school’s principal, Jane Wandrag, both confirmed the incident. However, they would not disclose the learner’s identity.
According to an eyewitness who was on the scene, it was the soccer coaches supervising the game who took the boy to Mopani Pharmacy. “He had no pulse, and it was decided to call paramedics to the scene,” eyewitness said.
ER24 and Netcare 911 paramedics were among those who responded and tried to revive the pupil, but to no avail. He was declared dead at the pharmacy.
