KZN murder suspect to appear in court

A suspect was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of an elderly man at Jameson Park in Morningside, Durban.

KZN police have confirmed the arrest of one suspect in relation to the murder of a man at Jameson Park on Friday.

Berea Mail reports that police spokesperson Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the victim was fatally stabbed and the suspect was taken into custody by Berea police. “The suspect will appear before the court soon,” said Ngcobo.

Following the fatal incident that has left Morningside reeling in shock, first responders Cerberus Tactical Security have shed light on the situation.

According to a statement released by Cerberus, the incident happened before 06:00 on Friday. The alarm was raised by a woman who reported to security personnel that her boyfriend had been stabbed.

“A Cerberus Tactical Security response officer who was commencing his shift at 06:00 immediately proceeded to the scene at Jameson Park. Upon arrival, the officer assessed the victim, checking for pulse and breathing, and initiated emergency response protocols,” read the statement.

The control room was instructed to contact emergency medical services as the victim appeared to be in critical condition. “While attending to the victim, the officer gathered information from the complainant and other individuals present at the park.

“It was reported that the suspect was sleeping on the roof of a nearby building within the park premises. The Cerberus officer located the suspect, who had visible blood on his hands and clothing, and detained him pending the arrival of the South African Police Service,” continued the statement.

A further search of the area led to the alleged discovery of drugs and other substances in his possession. The suspect was then placed in handcuffs and transported to the Berea Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

“The victim was confirmed deceased at about 07:25 on Friday,” read the statement, commending their officer for their quick thinking and swift response.
