KZN ‘satanic’ rape suspect due in court today

An alleged “satanic” rapist who was found in possession of his five victims’ underwear, apparently as trophies, is expected to appear in Empangeni Magistrates’ Court, KwaZulu-Natal, today.

The rape accused, 26, was arrested with two accomplices at a house in eNseleni in the early hours of Thursday morning last week. The two alleged accomplices are said to be his girlfriend and another man, Zululand Observer reported.

In addition to the underwear, a homemade knife and further evidence possibly linked to the victims was found in the suspect’s possession.

It is believed the accomplices worked with the alleged rapist to lure women seeking employment into meeting with him, where he would attack, sexually assault and rob them.

Between May and March this year, the five victims from in and around Empangeni reportedly fell victim to the trap. Police are urging any other victims to come forward.

The operation came after investigation by Sergeant Zandile Mbambo of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit as well as members of Crime Intelligence, who received information on the whereabouts of the suspect.
