KZN woman robbed and pushed off bridge into Umgeni River
Search and rescue officials saved a woman from drowning in a river after she was robbed and pushed from a bridge.
A woman, believed to be in her 60s, was rescued after being robbed and pushed off the Athlone Bridge into the Umgeni River in KZN last night.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says they responded to the near-drowning incident just after 18:15.
“Paramedics arrived on scene to find Metro Police Search and Rescue in attendance. Paramedics were shown to a woman who alleges that while walking along Athlone Drive she was robbed and then pushed off the bridge into the fast-flowing Umgeni River below.
“Metro Police Search and Rescue division was able to rescue the lady and bring her to safety. She was treated for moderate injuries by ALS Paramedics before she was transported to a hospital.”
Metro police and SAPS are investigating the incident.
