Four Ladysmith residents are among those reported missing after devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal on Wednesday (August 26).

Thousands of kilometres away, their loved ones now desperately await news as rescue efforts continue, reports Northern Natal News.

While Northern Natal News knows their identities, their names are being withheld as their families have not yet given permission for them to be published.

A glacial collapse is believed to have triggered the disaster, which has killed hundreds and left thousands missing across Nepal’s Rasuwa district and parts of Tibet.

Family members await to hear from their loved ones

Caxton Network News earlier reported that six South Africans are among those missing.

Among those anxiously waiting is the family of 33-year-old Isipingo Beach woman Terricia Govender.

Terricia was in Tibet on a pilgrimage with the Isha Foundation and had travelled to the region on August 12. Her mother, Linda Govender, said she last spoke to her daughter on Tuesday (August 25), before losing contact.

“She had everything going for her,” Linda said, describing her daughter as vibrant and energetic. “I am shocked and devastated. It’s like a dream; I just want to wake up and find it’s not true.”
