Ladysmith ward councillor and murder co-accused get bail

Ward councillor Nkosinathi Sithole and his co-accused were granted bail in Ladysmith after being charged with murder over an alleged mob attack.

Ladysmith Ward 9 Councillor Nkosinathi Sithole and his co-accused, Xolani Mlangeni, were granted bail in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Sithole is an ANC councillor under Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

Ladysmith Gazette reports he and Mlangeni were arrested last Monday, on murder charges.

The incident they are accused of took place on January 2.

According to an affidavit by the investigating officer, the duo fetched a man from his home in Acaciavale and took him to the Umbulwane area, where a mob viciously assaulted him after accusing him of stealing. The man died from his injuries.

The two accused applied for bail yesterday, which was granted unopposed.

They were granted R3 500 bail each and will appear in court again on March 28.
