Learner killed during Mandeni school fight

Police in KZN have arrested four schoolmates of a learner who died after allegedly being assaulted at school.

Four learners have been arrested in connection with the death of a 19-year-old following an alleged fight at Vusumuzi High School in Isithebe today (August 4), reports North Coast Courier.

iLembe police spokesperson Priya Nunkumar confirmed that Sundumbili SAPS have opened a case of murder.

Three of the suspects are juveniles, while the fourth is an adult.

“I can confirm a case of murder has been opened by Sundumbili Saps after a 19-year-old male was fatally assaulted by four school pupils at a local school. The victim was declared deceased at the scene,” said Nunkumar.

Emergency responders find victim unconscious

According to IPSS Search and Rescue operations manager Phumlani Vezi, emergency services were called to the school following reports of a fight involving a group of pupils.

Vezi said the victim was allegedly struck in the head during the altercation and was found unconscious.

Despite emergency responders’ efforts, he was declared dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including what led to the fight, are under investigation.
