Lenasia man found dead in a pool of blood: Suspect appears in court

Police are investigating the motive behind a murder in which a man was stabbed in the throat.

A 32-year-old man accused of the murder of a 40-year-old man in Thembelihle, Lenasia, appeared in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Soweto Urban reports that this comes after the police were contacted about a man lying dead in the street, in a pool of blood, at about 08:30 on Monday.

Joburg district corporate communication spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane says SAPS swiftly reacted to the scene and found that the deceased had been stabbed in the throat.

Information officers gathered at the scene were operationalised, which led to the accused’s arrest, says Tshetlhane.

“The motive behind the [murder] is not yet known. Police investigations continue.”

Acting district commissioner Brigadier Koena Moichela thanked the officers for their swift reaction and commitment to ensuring the community’s safety and security.
