Leopard on the prowl near Ladysmith
An elusive big cat gave residents of a small KZN town reason to be on high alert, with authorities urging people not to approach, chase or attempt to capture it.
Community members living near Colenso Heights, about 20km from Ladysmith, KZN, have been warned to be on the lookout for a leopard that was still on the loose outside the confines of nearby game farms, reports Northern Natal News.
The animal was photographed crossing the R103 at Colenso Heights on September 9, where it was grazed by an approaching vehicle before disappearing into nearby bush. A further sighting was also confirmed at night.

By the time of publication earlier today (October 8) the leopard was still on the loose.
Colenso police have been notified, and authorities are working alongside Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife to locate, contain, and safely relocate the leopard.
Residents are urged to remain calm but vigilant, particularly during the evening and at night.
If spotted, community members should not approach, chase, corner, or attempt to capture the animal.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife District Conservation Officer Ephraim Mavuso confirmed the leopard has been spotted multiple times in the Colenso area and remains at large.
Officials are actively searching for the animal and urge anyone who spots the leopard to contact Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife or local police immediately.
