Lightning strikes Leopards bus with players on board

A match between two local rugby teams was postponed until Tuesday due to dangerous weather conditions.

A rugby match between the Leopards and Griffons in Welkom that was supposed to take place on Saturday, was cancelled because of bad weather and after a team bus was struck by lightning.

Eugene Fourie, executive officer at the Leopards Rugby Union, confirmed that the players were on the bus when it was struck by lightning, but said no one was injured.

On the field, kick-off was delayed at first after which the referee decided to cancel the game due to bad weather conditions.

The two teams will face each other tomorrow at 15:00.
