LIMPOPO: Fraudulent sick notes: Two more arrested in Polokwane

Two others have been arrested for fraud following yesterday’s arrest of the 53-year-old Warrant Officer.

His 52-year-old wife and a 38-year-old data typist, attached to the Seshego Police Station, were arrested on Wednesday evening and the trio are expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 September, says Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement, Capricon Review reports.

These arrests come after a sick note, issued by a ‘medical doctor’ was submitted with a leave form. Police were notified and investigations revealed that the wife of this warrant officer was working for a doctor in the area and when she was dismissed, she allegedly stole documents with the doctor’s letterhead. These acts of fraud have been happening since 2013.

The couple were allegedly selling sick notes and prescriptions to people at a cost of R100 and during this period the WO allegedly issued over 20 sick notes to himself.

Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Maj Genl Samuel Manala, hopes these arrests send are a deterrent to those in the SAPS who are still perpetrating any form of criminality. “They must now that they cannot hide and once they are caught, harsh measures will be taken against them,” he concludes.
