Limpopo man jailed for life after killing wife in church
A 55-year-old man has been sentenced for following his 43-year-old wife to church and shooting her in front of congregants.
A 55-year-old man from Sidou Village in Limpopo has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife during a church service in Makonde last year. According to Polokwane Review, the Thohoyandou High Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday.
Shooting in front of congregants
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the court heard that on March 30, 2024, the man, later identified as Mundalamo Avhapfani Eric, followed his 43-year-old wife, Mbedzi Funanani Patience, to church. Armed with a gun, he entered the building and shot her in front of congregants.
Investigation and arrest
Police opened a murder case at the scene. The investigation was led by Constable Mashamba Mmbengeni Clovis of the Thohoyandou Detective Service, who compiled evidence linking the husband to the killing.
He surrendered to police the following day, April 1, 2024, and was formally charged.
Conviction and firearm ban
After nearly two years of court proceedings and investigation, the high court convicted him of murder and imposed a life sentence. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
