Lioness spotted on R533 near Ohrigstad, Mpumalanga

Members of the public who spot a lioness on the R533 in Ohrigstad are urged to contact the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency.

Reports of a lioness on the R533 in Ohrigstad, north of Mashishing (Lydenburg), have been confirmed by Gerrie Camacho, carnivore scientist with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency.

Lowvelder reports that Camacho says several witnesses have seen the lioness on this road, as well as on the Klipfontein road off the R533.

“I received a call about the sighting and can confirm that a young female lion is roaming the area,” Camacho said, adding that arrangements are being made to capture the animal.

In the meantime, Camacho has asked the public to contact him on 082 353 9097 if they spot the lioness.

The public is urged not to approach the animal.
