Female lion spotted on Ohrigstad Road

Camacho said that several witnesses have seen the lioness on this road, as well as the Klipfontein road turning off the R533.

Reports of a female lion on the R533 in Origstad have been confirmed by Gerrie Camacho, carnivore scientist with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA).

Camacho said that several witnesses have seen the lioness on this road, as well as the Klipfontein road turning off the R533.

“I received a call about the sighting and can confirm that a young female lion is roaming the area,” Camacho said, adding that arrangements are being made to capture the animal.

In the meantime, Camacho is asking the public and motorists making use of this road to contact him with information about its whereabouts on 082 353 9097.

The public is urged not to approach or engage the animal in any way.
