Live worms found inside Ferrero Rocher chocolates

On a Facebook post, Peter Bauer, yesterday said the company still had not responded to his complaint.

“Right… Ferrero Rocher SA… Since 23rd June 2015 you’ve refused to answer countless emails, refused to return countless telephonic calls.

“Your product had live worms in it. I sent you pictures, what more do I have to do to get a response? Well it seems Ferrero Rocher SA is too big and don’t fear negative publicity,” said Bauer.

A representative from Ferrero Rocher, Nozipho Masuku told The Citizen the company was not aware of the matter but would look into it.

“The person who was handling complaints has resigned. The newly appointed person will check if any complaint about the worms found inside chocolates has been laid,” added Masuku.

Facebook users reacted in disgust following the incident. Jonathan Rall said: “S*** thinking about this now I have 3 boxes of this in my cupboard.”

Alanda Dieroff said: “I dont buy them anymore because of similar issues. No response either jig.”

This comes after a customer found what looked like a prawn in a can of Lucky Star pilchards earlier this month.

A photo of the creature, described by fisheries company Oceana Group, as “a marine crustacean”, was shared on Facebook by Johannesburg resident Hayley Diedericks.

She wrote in the caption: “My poor domestic worker found this THING in a tin of pilchards … bloody hell.”

Diedericks said after laying a complaint, the creature was apparently checked by the company. She said he received “a call from the marketing director of Lucky Star and the nunu is a mantis shrimp not a parktown prawn”.

Oceana spokesperson Bulelwa Nombutuma told The Citizen: “Once we became aware of the complaint and the photograph, we took immediate action to investigate how this isolated incident could have happened.

“While we have yet to complete our investigation to determine the root cause of the problem, we can confirm that the photograph shows a marine crustacean, which was accidently canned with the pilchards during the canning process.”
