Load-shedding downgraded: Stage 6 will not be implemented tonight
Eskom says load-shedding has been downgraded slightly thanks to a lower than anticipated demand.

Eskom announced this afternoon that stage 6 load-shedding will no longer be implemented tonight as planned.
“Due to lower than anticipated demand, load-shedding will continue to be implemented at stage 4 until 22:00 tonight,” the power utility said in a media statement.
From 22:00 until 07:00 tomorrow morning, stage 2 will be implemented.
On Saturday and Sunday, stage 4 load-shedding will be implemented between 07:00 and 22:00. From 22:00 to 07:00 on both days, stage 2 will be implemented.
“Eskom cautions that this small reprieve is due to lower than anticipated demand during the weekend and continues to evaluate the situation and closely monitor the system. We will communicate and implement any changes as may be necessary.”
The power utility said it currently has 3 104 MW on planned maintenance, while another 17 431 MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.

“Eskom thanks all workers who have reported for duty and who continue to perform diligently under extremely challenging conditions.”
Jan Oberholzer, Eskom COO, said during a media briefing this morning that the illegal strike action is costing the power system about 2 500 MW, in other words three stages of load-shedding.
