Load-shedding to be gradually reduced later this week
A decrease in breakdowns has resulted in a smaller gap between demand and supply.
Eskom has announced that stage 5 power cuts will be implemented from 16:00 this afternoon. In a statement the power utility thanked citizens who heed the call to use electricity sparingly and switch off geysers between 17:00 and 21:00 at night to help reduce demand.
Eskom says breakdowns have decreased and a generating unit at Matla Power Station was returned to service while another at the same power station broke down.
Six units currently out of service at five power stations are to blame for the current spate of load-shedding.
Load-shedding will be implemented at stage 4 during the day and stage 5 from 16:00 until 05:00 for today and tomorrow. On Saturday stage 3 will be implemented between 05:00 to 16:00 and stage 4 from 16:00 until 05:00 on Sunday.
Stage 1 power cuts will be implemented during the day on Sunday with stage 4 from 16:00.
