Load-shedding to be implemented from later this afternoon

Daily power cuts are on the cards after trouble returning generating units to service, coupled with the loss of other units.

Load-shedding will return this afternoon when stage 2 power cuts are implemented at 16:00.

The resumption of rolling power cuts is, according to Eskom spokesperson Aubrey Sambo, a result of a ‘setback experienced in returning two generating units to service, as well as the loss of three generating units’.

Sambo explains that load-shedding will be implemented daily in two stages: Stage 2 (16:00-05:00) and stage 1 (05:00-16:00). This will be the schedule until further notice, Sambo adds.

“Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes should it be required. Unplanned outages are currently at 14 953MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 7 638MW,” he says.

Sambo adds that their teams are working hard ‘to ensure that 2 700MW of generating capacity is returned to service before the end of the week’.
