Man (37) due in Limpopo court after 10-year-old’s rape

A medical examination confirmed a 10-year-old’s account after she reported the Friday night incident the following morning.

A 37-year-old man is set to appear in the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court today after police in Ritavi, Limpopo, arrested him in connection with the rape of a minor.

According to Letaba Herald, provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the incident occurred on Friday night. The victim, her mother and the mother’s partner slept in the same room.

“It is alleged that the suspect raped the 10-year-old victim at their home around midnight while the child’s mother was asleep,” adds Ledwaba.

Child examined

The matter came to light the following morning when the child complained of the ordeal. The incident was reported to police on Saturday and the child was taken to a local hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed the rape.

The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court on a charge of rape.

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Tzaneen has been notified to take over the investigation.
