Man allegedly stabs himself to death in Springs

The police are suspecting no foul play after a man allegedly stabbed himself with a broken bottle outside a supermarket.

A man in his 30s was found stabbed outside a supermarket in Geduld, Springs, on Monday afternoon.

According to Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, of the Springs police, the shopkeeper said an unidentified man told him the man had stabbed himself to death with a broken bottle neck.

“The informer claimed he saw the deceased earlier, pacing up and down in front of the shop. A while later, he found him lying on the pavement in a pool of blood,” said Tshabalala.

Tshabalala added that the informer contacted the Springs police and emergency services, who declared the man dead on the scene.

The man was shirtless but wore black jeans and takkies. His backpack was found against the wall where he was seen during the day.

Tshabalala said a bottleneck was found nearby, and the deceased might have stood up and passed the supermarket before passing away.

He had a stab wound on the right side of his neck.

No foul play is suspected at this stage.
