Man critical after falling from top floor of Menlyn mall

The man fell the height of approximately three storeys and sustained serious injuries.

A 31-year-old man sustained critical injuries when he fell from the top floor of the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in Pretoria earlier this morning.

Centre general manager Nisha Kemraj said the incident happened at around 08:00 and the man was in the Cavendish court on the top floor when he fell below.

Kemraj said the events that led to the fall are, however, not clear at this point but investigations are underway.

She said paramedics were immediately called to the scene to stabilise him and transport him to a nearby hospital.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the man fell from a height of approximately three storeys.

Van Reenen said he was found in a critical condition and needed advanced life support intervention to stabilise him.

“We quickly placed him onto a mechanical ventilator to assist him in breathing.

“The man was airlifted to a specialist facility for further medical care,” Van Reenen said.

Kemraj said the centre will reach out to the patient’s family to provide support and assistance, and trauma counselling to witnesses.
