People were warned not to go near construction sites after a man lost his life in Johannesburg this morning.

A man has died after an abandoned building collapsed on him this morning in Orange Farm, a township in Johannesburg.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi said rescue technicians attended to the scene. One person died and another was treated on the scene before being transported to a hospital for further medical care.

According to Mulaudzi, the two men were apparently stripping the abandoned building when it collapsed on them.

“Residents are urged to not enter construction sites or even try to remove material from such buildings,” Mulaudzi adds.
