Man in court for ‘killing’ stepson

A Zimbabwean national appeared in the Witbank Magistrates’ Court in Mpumalanga on Tuesday for allegedly murdering his six-year-old stepson.

The 23-year-old man was arrested last week Thursday after the boy’s decomposed body was found in the Extension 16 area, Witbank News reported.

It is believed the boy’s 23-year-old stepfather had taken him to buy school uniform two days earlier.

When the boy did not come back home, his mother started looking for him, after which his body was found in his grandmother’s shack.

The stepfather reportedly told a relative he had killed the boy and wanted help getting rid of the body and returning to Zimbabwe.

Police are set to conduct a postmortem to determine the causes of death while further investigations continue.

The six-year-old boy was buried on Wednesday at the Kromdraai Cemetery in Witbank.

In a separate incident, nine-year-old Shahiel Sewpujan boy was found dead in a manhole in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal this past weekend.

The child, who was reportedly found naked with bruises, was allegedly murdered last week Thursday at his residence while his mother was at work.

A 31-year-old woman believed to be the boy’s landlady was arrested and later appeared in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court .
