Man in court for murder of ex-lover’s boyfriend

Isipingo detectives were recently following up on possible leads regarding an accused, who was believed to be involved in a murder and attempted murder in the Malukazi area.

On Thursday night, the detectives made a breakthrough when they arrested a 44-year-old man, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.

Provincial police spokeswoman, Cpt Nqobile Gwala, explained that the accused was traced and arrested in Umlazi where he was in hiding and evading arrest.

“He was found in possession of a firearm suspected to be used in the commission of the crime. The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was linked to the case as well as any other serious crimes reported in the country,” confirmed Cpt Gwala.

His arrest comes after an incident that occurred on the morning of June 27, at 5am, in Malukazi, where 28-year-old Mzwandile Jwara was shot and killed when he was with his girlfriend.

“The accused fired shots at the deceased’s girlfriend but the bullet missed her. She managed to grab the firearm and the magazine came out and a round of ammunition fell on the ground. The suspect fled the scene and was on the run since then. The investigation revealed that the accused was the ex-boyfriend of the woman, who survived,” added Cpt Gwala.

He appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, August 31, on charges of murder and attempted murder.

KwaZulu-Natal’s provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula, praised all involved in tracing and apprehending the accused.
