Man killed in alleged robbery in Gauteng

A night out ended in tragedy when a man was fatally stabbed in Boipatong.

A serene morning was disturbed when residents were woken up to a murder scene yesterday (May 17), reports Sedibeng Ster.

Pitros Sibeko (49) was found dead inside a makeshift street vendor’s stall at the corner of Dr Nkomo Drive and Leshoboro Street after being stabbed on his way home from a local tavern.

According to a police report, the trouble began when unknown suspects approached Sibeko and his friends in an apparent robbery attempt. While his companions managed to flee the scene, they later returned to a devastating discovery.

Sergeant Matebello Tlokolo said when the deceased’s friends later returned, they found the deceased lying inside a street vendor’s shack with a stab wound above his left eye.

As the news spread, distraught cries from the victim’s family echoed through the neighbourhood. Dozens of residents braved the chilly morning air to watch as police officers combed the area for evidence.

Sibeko was certified dead at the scene, and his body was transported to Sebokeng Mortuary.

The suspects remain at large, while a murder investigation is underway.

The police are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward. Members of the public can contact the Boipatong SAPS on 082 822 7125, 016 930 2328, 10111, or via the MySAPS App.
