Man killed in shoot-out with police in KZN

A suspect was shot dead after he allegedly opened fire at authorities conducting an intelligence operation in Msinga.

A 29-year-old man was fatally wounded during a shoot-out with police in Emadulaneni, Msinga, in the early hours of Friday, reports Dundee Courier.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana says members of the Tactical Response Team acted on intelligence about a suspect allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Officers approached the identified premises, where the suspect allegedly opened fire on them.

“Police returned fire in an effort to neutralise the threat.

The suspect sustained fatal injuries during the exchange and was declared dead at the scene,” said Nkwanyana.

A .38 special revolver and ammunition were recovered at the scene.

Police say all relevant role players were activated and the incident has been reported in line with standard procedures.
